Our journey and very first location began September 1, 1999, at 10151 Foothill Blvd. in Oakland Ca. when our founders, Dennis Ray Hicks Sr. and Etta Delitha Hicks, set out to create a restaurant that would serve the best barbeque in town.
From Foreman to BBQ Dreamer with a Mission
Dennis Hicks Sr. and Etta Delitha Hicks grew up in Biloxi Mississippi and got married in 1960. Dennis decided to retire after 35 years of working as a Foreman construction worker. Although he wasn't much of a cook, it has always been a dream of his to one day own a barbeque restaurant and to help young men and women who have been incarcerated by offering them a second opportunity at life and a career.
Dad's BBQ: A Family Legacy Begins
It was in Virginia at a family reunion where Dennis Sr. began his vision to establish a restaurant. His Eldest daughter gave him the name Dad's, and from there Dad's BBQ was created. His son in law created his famous hat logo, his niece prepared aprons and hats. His second eldest daughter Dietra King Hicks became an investor and business partner when he moved the business to Pittsburg CA.
Mississippi Roots, Family Flame
in 2006 which she helped run and grow the business for 17 years and was honored with the key to the city of Antioch where she moved the business to in 2020 for her huge contribution to the community. She was 60 years old when she went home to be with the Lord January 7, 2024.
Dad's BBQ Next Generation Inc. is here to continue on with their legacy as the third generation. With our mouthwatering famous taste of Mississippi flavored BBQ. Which was Created by Etta Hick's.
